Azure Arc enables organizations to deploy Microsoft Azure services anywhere, extending Azure management capabilities to any infrastructure and connecting on-premises computing resources to the cloud. It provides a unified approach to governance and management across multi-cloud and on-premises environments through a single interface. Azure Arc simplifies the administration of servers and Kubernetes environments by projecting them into Azure Resource Manager, allowing for streamlined configuration, monitoring, and security of both first-party and third-party applications.

As a Software Engineer in Azure Arc, part of the Azure Core team, you will contribute to building a Kubernetes-based platform that empowers customers to manage resources across clouds, data centers, and edge environments. This role involves collaborating with partner teams such as Azure SQL, Azure Web Apps, and Azure Stack to bring Azure services to on-premises infrastructure. You will work with technologies including Go, Python, Kubernetes, Linux, and other open-source tools to develop a robust hybrid platform.

Responsibilities

  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features.
  • Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.
  • Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.
  • Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems.
  • Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline,
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • Proven experience with Kubernetes or other container technologies.
  • Proven experience building RESTful services and developing software hosted in Microsoft Azure, AWS, or other similar cloud platforms.
Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python,
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python,
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Reliable problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Demonstrated engagement in site reliability engineering (SRE) practices.
Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
