Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and technically curious individual to join our Database Engineering team. This role is ideal for someone with foundational experience in Microsoft SQL Server, both on-premises and in the cloud, along with exposure to Azure data services such as Azure SQL, Azure Managed Instance, and Cosmos DB.
You’ll work closely with senior DBAs, developers, and analysts to maintain, monitor, and enhance our database estate across on-premises and cloud environments. If you’re passionate about data, scripting, and continuous learning, we’d love to hear from you.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day support and administration of SQL Server and Azure-based databases, including installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, performance tuning, backups, restores, and deployments with 24x7 on-call availability as needed
- Collaborate with development and operations teams to deliver resilient, performant, and secure database solutions
- Ensure database environment is secure, healthy, reliably backed up, and ready for all contingencies
- Ensure the environment meets high availability, recovery, and compliance standards
- Monitor database health and respond to alerts using a variety of monitoring tools
- Participate in database capacity planning and forecasting
- Perform ongoing patching of our database estate
- Support data migration and integration efforts, including ETL processes
- Contribute to automation and scripting efforts, particularly with PowerShell, T-SQL or equivalent
- Maintain thorough documentation of configuration, procedures, and best practices
- A degree in Computer Science or a related technical field (or equivalent professional experience)
- 1 to 3 years of experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server in an enterprise environment
- Preferably, experience with the Azure cloud data platform, including some of:
- Azure SQL Database
- Azure SQL Managed Instance
- Cosmos DB
- Azure Data Factory
- Power BI
- Synapse
- Experience automating routine tasks using scripting tools such as PowerShell/T-SQL
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to remain focused and positive when managing competing priorities or tight deadlines
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a global, cross-functional team
