HR Generalist

We are seeking an experienced and motivated HR Generalist to join our team. This is a varied and dynamic role that provides the opportunity to take ownership across multiple HR functions including absence management, recruitment, employee engagement, employee relations, and ongoing HR operations.


Key Responsibilities


Absence Management

  • Produce and maintain daily absence reports, updating records and contacting absentees when necessary.
  • Monitor and update absence trackers.
  • Identify breaches of absence policy and collaborate with Managers/Supervisors to take appropriate action.
  • Support and lead absence investigations and disciplinaries in partnership with Supervisors/Managers.
  • Produce weekly absence KPIs.
  • Coordinate welfare and absence meetings for long-term or repeated short-term absence cases.
  • Arrange occupational health appointments, complete referrals, and confirm details with employees.
  • Ensure return-to-work forms are completed and follow up on any missing documentation.


Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Manage the full recruitment lifecycle for General Operative roles and support broader site recruitment activities.
  • Prepare and post job adverts internally and externally, shortlist candidates with managers, arrange and conduct interviews.
  • Support onboarding, including HR induction, documentation, clocking system enrolment, and follow-up interviews.
  • Prepare and issue employment contracts, ensuring right-to-work compliance.
  • Represent the business at career events and job fairs.


Employee Engagement

  • Develop, implement, and promote employee engagement initiatives in collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
  • Organise and facilitate quarterly Employee Forum meetings.
  • Manage employee communications, including noticeboards, canteen screens, and the engagement calendar.


Employee Relations & Performance Management

  • Support and participate in investigations, grievances, and disciplinary processes.
  • Ensure probationary reviews are carried out, issuing reminders and supporting Managers/Supervisors in meetings.


HR Operations

  • Provide advice and guidance on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Act as a point of contact for employee queries, preparing letters and forms as needed.
  • Maintain HR trackers covering absence, recruitment, employee relations, probationary periods, right to work, and leavers.
  • Ensure employee records and databases are accurate, up to date, and compliant with confidentiality standards.
  • Support HSE administration and HR/HSE projects.
  • Complete KPIs in the absence of the HR Manager.
  • Notify stakeholders of new starters and leavers, ensuring all related paperwork is completed.
  • Conduct exit interviews.


The Ideal Candidate

  • Excellent communicator with strong relationship-building skills.
  • Influential, proactive, and capable of driving continuous improvement.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage deadlines effectively.
  • Minimum 1–2 years’ proven HR Generalist experience.
  • Solid background in absence management and employee relations, including investigations and disciplinaries.
  • Good knowledge and application of employment law.
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and HR systems.
  • Third-level qualification in HR/Business-related subject or CIPD qualified (desirable).
  • FMCG experience is advantageous.
  • Commitment to maintaining compliance with health and safety standards.
