KR Recruitment are delighted to be recruiting a Chief Risk Officer (CRO) role for a leading global Banking / Investor Services group at their Luxembourg operation. In this role you will lead the Risk Management Department, and be a key member of the Executive Committee. The CRO will drive the strategic direction of risk management, ensuring robust oversight of financial, operational, and regulatory risks while fostering a culture of risk awareness and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Regulatory Leadership: Serve as the CSSF-registered Chief Risk Officer, ensuring full compliance with Luxembourg’s regulatory framework and maintaining proactive engagement with regulatory authorities.
- Strategic Risk Management: Oversee the Risk Management Department, providing strategic direction and establishing policies, procedures, and workflows to identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate risks (including credit, market, operational risks).
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of risk professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment while promoting risk awareness and best practices.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain effective and transparent communication with the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and other key stakeholders to align risk management strategies with business objectives.
- Project Ownership: Lead and contribute to risk-related projects, ensuring timely implementation of initiatives to enhance risk frameworks and controls.
- Business Partnership: Collaborate closely with business lines to understand operational needs, identify potential risks, and develop tailored solutions to support sustainable growth.
- Information Security Oversight: Supervise the Information Security Officer and team, ensuring robust cybersecurity measures and compliance with data protection regulations.
- Regulatory Liaison: Build and maintain strong relationships with regulatory bodies and the bank’s Head Office, ensuring alignment with group policies and local requirements.
- Risk Culture: Champion a risk-aware culture across the organization through training, education, and proactive risk management initiatives.
Candidate Profile:
- Education: Degree educated in Mathematics (preferable), Economics, Finance, or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., FRM, CFA) are highly desirable.
- CSSF approved.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a senior risk management role, preferably within a banking or financial institution in Luxembourg or a comparable regulatory environment.
- Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of financial risks, with a strong focus on credit risk, and a solid understanding of operational and market risks
- Comprehensive understanding of Luxembourg’s regulatory requirements (CSSF) and international standards (e.g., Basel III/IV, CRR/CRD).
- Familiarity with information security and cybersecurity risk management is an advantage.
- Leadership & Interpersonal Skills: Proven ability to lead and inspire diverse teams, fostering collaboration and a results-driven culture.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior management, regulators, and cross-functional teams.
- Adaptability to diverse cultural and professional environments, with a collaborative and solution-oriented mindset.
- Organizational Skills: Strong project management and organizational capabilities, with a track record of delivering complex initiatives on time and within scope.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is essential. Proficiency in additional European languages (e.g., French, German, or Luxembourgish) is an advantage.
- Personal Attributes: Strategic thinker with a proactive and analytical approach, a passion for problem-solving, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.
