OPTIION's mission

At OPTIION, we develop software that helps battery owners make smart, data-driven decisions about how to operate their assets across multiple energy markets. Our platform uses forecasts for photovoltaic generation, electricity prices, and grid conditions to determine when batteries should charge, discharge, or provide ancillary services, maximizing revenue while respecting operational constraints.

At the same time, our optimization algorithms allow batteries to support distribution system operators by actively managing local voltage and congestion, contributing to a safe, reliable, and efficient electricity grid.

We’re an early-stage start-up with strong ties to EPFL, building technology that plays a direct role in the energy transition by enabling more cost-effective and widespread deployment of renewable energy sources.

Main responsibilities

As one of the early members of OPTIION, you will have the opportunity to help shape how our technology and products evolve. Your role will grow and change as the company develops, exposing you to different aspects of both the business and the technology development.

Your initial focus will be on developing AI-based forecasting models for photovoltaic (PV) generation and integrating these forecasts into OPTIION’s trading platform. Over time, your responsibilities will expand to other types of forecasting and the development of ML-based trading models across multiple energy markets.

You will be part of a small, fast-moving team at the intersection of power systems, optimization, and trading. You will work closely with energy system and market experts to turn research ideas into production-ready solutions and real-world deployments.

Profile

We are looking for a candidate with strong expertise in machine learning and AI. Ideally, you have experience working with imaging and time-series data, managing large datasets, and developing models that perform reliably in production environments. Knowledge of power systems and energy markets is a plus.

Beyond your technical strengths, you are a versatile problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced start-up environment and can work independently. As an early member of the team, you will take ownership from day one and have the opportunity to help shape the company’s direction as it grows.

You are motivated not only by building high-impact technology that drives the energy transition, but also by helping define the processes, culture, and vision of a small, highly driven, and collaborative team.

Previous work experience is welcome but not required. Your motivation, curiosity, and ability to move quickly from concept to implementation will make you an excellent fit.

We offer

You’ll join a highly motivated early-stage startup where your ideas have real impact from day one. Here, you’ll help shape our technology and products, tackle new challenges every week, and see your work come to life in real-world deployments. It’s a fast-paced, hands-on environment with plenty of learning, freedom to experiment, and the chance to make a tangible difference in the energy transition.

We also offer a competitive salary and equity package, because your contribution deserves to be recognized.
