What´s the role?

 

The Systems Administrator will play a critical role in ensuring the stability, security, and performance of our data center operations. This position is responsible for managing server environments across Linux and Windows platforms, virtualization infrastructure, backup and recovery systems, core network services such as DNS, and physical hardware. The administrator will also ensure compliance with corporate security policies and support external audit requirements. Working closely with other teams, this role supports both daily operations and strategic technology initiatives. We are seeking a proactive professional with strong experience in service provider environments who can balance operational excellence with long-term infrastructure reliability.

 

How can you add value?

  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux and Windows Server environments.
  • Apply regular updates, patches, and upgrades to ensure system security and stability.
  • Manage Active Directory, Group Policies, and user authentication services.
  • Automate routine administration tasks using shell scripts, PowerShell, or Ansible.
  • Administer VMware vSphere clusters, including provisioning, resource allocation, vMotion, and HA/DRS.
  • Monitor and maintain virtual machines, templates, and snapshots.
  • Optimize resource usage and plan capacity for virtual infrastructure growth.
  • Manage Veeam Backup & Replication, including job configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Perform regular test restores to ensure data recovery integrity.
  • Maintain backup policies aligned with corporate RPO/RTO requirements.
  • Coordinate disaster recovery planning and documentation.
  • Configure and maintain DNS, DHCP, and IP address management within the data center.
  • Troubleshoot network performance and connectivity issues across systems and applications.
  • Monitor storage arrays, SAN/NAS systems, and local server storage for performance and capacity.
  • Perform firmware upgrades and hardware maintenance on servers, blades, and racks.
  • Replace failed components (disks, memory, power supplies) and ensure vendor support coordination.
  • Document hardware inventory, lifecycle, and warranty coverage.
  • Implement corporate security policies, access controls, and system hardening standards.
  • Monitor logs for suspicious activity and escalate incidents as needed.
  • Support compliance audits (SOC 2, ISO 27001, etc.) by maintaining accurate system records and evidence.
  • Ensure encryption, patch management, and vulnerability remediation are consistently applied.
  • Use system and application monitoring tools (e.g., Zabbix, Nagios, vRealize) to track availability and performance.\
  • Respond to alerts and incidents in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
  • Analyze system performance trends and proactively recommend improvements.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of systems, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Provide tier 2/3 technical support to resolve complex incidents.
    Collaborate with other teams (network, security, mobile).
  • On-call.
  • Demonstrates and ensures compliance with The Customer 1st Philosophy, Liberty Latin America Code of Conduct and Liberty safety standards and procedures.
  • Other functions that may be assigned.

 

What do you need?

 

Education and/or Experience:

5+ years of hands-on experience as a Systems Administrator in a Cable or Telecommunications service provider environment, supporting mission-critical infrastructure.

 

Other Qualifications:

  • Strong expertise in Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) and Windows Server administration, including patching, automation, and Active Directory.
  • Proven experience with VMware vSphere/ESXi for virtualization, clustering, and high availability in large-scale environments.
  • Deep knowledge of Veeam Backup & Replication, backup policies, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Hands-on experience managing DNS, DHCP, IP address management, and core data center networking.
  • Familiarity with carrier-grade hardware platforms (servers, storage arrays, SAN/NAS, power/cooling, and rack systems).
  • Understanding of telco-grade uptime requirements (99.999% availability) and experience supporting geographically redundant infrastructures.
  • Working knowledge of SOC 2, ISO 27001, or equivalent compliance frameworks relevant to the telecommunications industry.
  • Strong background in system hardening, access controls, and log management for security enforcement.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-availability Cable/Telco environment with strict SLAs.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for cross-team collaboration (network, NOC, engineering, and security teams).
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, handle multiple priorities, and deliver in environments with high customer impact.
