About the Role

A long-term contract opportunity is available for a Senior .NET Developer (Optimisation) to join a small, high-performing engineering team tackling complex optimisation challenges within large-scale, real-time systems.

You’ll play a key role in developing and enhancing software that applies mathematical and algorithmic optimisation techniques to improve the efficiency and utilisation of automated assets. The work will also involve contributing to broader optimisation initiatives such as routing, scheduling, and continuous improvement, while helping to shape technical direction and roadmap planning.

You’ll collaborate closely with developers, architects, and domain experts to design and implement robust, scalable algorithmic solutions. This environment suits someone who is analytical, self-driven, and comfortable solving open-ended problems without predefined templates.

This contract runs until mid-2026, with strong potential to extend for another year and transition to permanent employment. The team operates in a flexible hybrid setup, generally spending around three days per week in the office.

You Should Have

  • A strong background in optimisation and applied mathematics, ideally with a degree or PhD in Mathematics.
  • 5–6+ years of .NET development experience.
  • At least 10 years of commercial software experience overall.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • A self-managed, proactive approach suited to complex and exploratory work.

Nice to Have

  • Previous experience in optimisation systems, resource scheduling, or fleet/asset management.
  • Experience in environments where automation, data-driven decisions, or system efficiency are key focus areas.

The Benefits

  • Hourly rate up to $125 + super (flexible for strong candidates).
  • Contract through to mid-2026, with a likely extension and potential permanency.
  • Opportunity to work on high-impact optimisation systems with real-world applications.
  • Hybrid work model — typically 3 days in office / 2 days from home.
  • Be part of a collaborative, technically strong team solving challenging, high-value problems.
