Job Title: ESRI/GIS Developer
Location: Ontario, Canada (Hybrid – 3 days onsite, 2 days remote; may vary based on client needs)
Duration: 12 Months
Industry Type: Public Sector
Pay Structure: 65 - 75$ca per Hour.
Job Description:
We’re seeking an experienced ESRI/GIS Developer to join a dynamic public sector modernization initiative. The selected professional will play a key role in migrating an existing GeoCortex mapping application to the VertiGIS platform, supporting critical operations that directly impact public safety and resource management.
You’ll collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of Developers, Business Analysts, and Project Leads to design, develop, and deploy web-based GIS tools that enhance operational effectiveness and user experience.
Key Responsibilities:
· Migrate existing tools and features from GeoCortex to VertiGIS Studio
· Add new functionality to support operational needs for the upcoming season (e.g., hourly Fire Weather Index layer with interpolation)
· Design, build, and deploy web-based GIS solutions tailored to stakeholder requirements
· Ensure accessibility compliance (AODA / WCAG 2.0 Level AA) in all UI components
· Collaborate in an agile environment to stabilize and refine application functionality
Required Skills:
· Hands-on experience customizing mapping applications using GIS SDKs
· Strong development experience in JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frameworks such as React
· Proficiency with ESRI-based GIS technologies and web mapping platforms
· Experience with VertiGIS Studio Web SDK (preferred), Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 SDK, or ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript
· Knowledge of ArcGIS REST API, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Portal (service publishing, integration, and administration)
· Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and responsive UI design principles
· Experience developing applications compliant with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
· Excellent collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills
Desirable Skills:
· Experience within the Ontario Public Service (OPS) or broader public sector environment
· Familiarity with VertiGIS Studio (Web and Workflow), ESRI Experience Builder, and Web AppBuilder
· Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
