With an exceptional team of 25 employees and strong backing from solid investors, Rentelligent is the company behind two of the fastest-growing and most innovative residential rental platforms in Norway (Husleie.no) and Germany (SmartMiete). We also run Husleiestrøm, an electricity company tailored for the Norwegian rental market.

We’re growing rapidly and are looking for a Head of Engineering to further develop and lead our engineering team to the next level.

The role

As Head of Engineering, you will lead our ten developers across three teams, most of whom work remotely. You’ll be the link between business (CPO) and technology (CTO), playing a key role in ensuring efficiency, quality, and progress in our development work.

Your job is to make sure we deliver high-quality technology on time, and that the team works efficiently and toward shared goals.

The position is based at our headquarters in central Oslo, even though most of our developers work remotely.

Our codebase is primarily built on Perl and Vue, with increasing use of Go. You don’t need to master all of them, but you should be comfortable setting direction and contributing to structure. Experience with DevOps is a plus.

You’ll be part of a development team of around 10 people—experienced developers and testers who know their craft and appreciate good discussions. In addition, we’re about 15 others in the company.

We have a flat organization where technology and product development go hand in hand. Everyone—from customer service to finance—is closely involved with the products we build and contributes to improving the user experience. With us, tech isn’t a support function—it’s the engine of the business.

Responsibilities

Leadership and structure

• Follow up on development teams through standups, planning, and retrospectives
• Ensure clear task distribution, responsibilities, and goals for each team member
• Identify and address productivity or competence gaps

Process and project management

• Implement and maintain effective development processes, including safe and responsible use of AI tools
• Ensure good communication between the tech team and management regarding expectations and progress
• Prioritize tasks in collaboration with the CPO and CTO

Quality and QA

• Develop and enforce standards for code quality, testing, and release together with the team
• Improve automated testing routines and ensure the “definition of done” is followed
• Minimize production errors through solid QA processes

Team culture and professional development

• Build a culture of learning, ownership, and continuous improvement
• Facilitate skill development and knowledge sharing
• Ensure the team thrives and performs at a high level

Qualifications

• Experience as an Engineering Manager, Head of Engineering, Tech Lead, or similar role
• Strong understanding of modern development methodologies and project management
• Experience with distributed/remote development teams
• Solid technical understanding (but not necessarily the one coding most)
• Experience with QA, testing strategy, and quality control
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to build trust and motivation in the team
