Under the general direction of the Section Head, supervise the Voice, Data and Radio Networks group C performing complex and diversified tasks involving coordination and direct support of design and operational requirements of Telecommunications voice and data infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, coordinate, and directly support technical staff and provide functional leadership to project team members, field technicians, suppliers, and contractors.
- Provide complex and non-routine technical expertise and analysis for the selection, development, and integration of voice and data communication systems, including legacy PBX platforms (e.g., Nortel Option 11/81, Avaya CM/IP Office), IP telephony, unified communications, LAN/WAN infrastructure, and network management systems.
- Provide complex and non-routine technical design expertise to support enterprise voice and data network infrastructure, including structured cabling systems, patching architectures, network closets, and related components necessary for reliable connectivity and system integration.
- Oversee the design and specification of network equipment systems, including routers, switches, firewalls, and voice gateways.
- Manage procurement, selection activities, installation work descriptions, commissioning procedures, and contract administration.
- Responsible for ensuring voice and data transport systems meet operational requirements for latency, redundancy, availability, and security, particularly for critical applications such as SCADA, teleprotection signaling, and emergency communications.
- Assist internal and external planning and project management staff in scoping, scheduling, cost estimating, progress reporting, and cost control of telecommunications infrastructure projects.
- Provide ongoing support to maintenance engineering and field technicians for troubleshooting, upgrades, and lifecycle management of existing voice and data systems and facilities.
- Make technical presentations and represent the Corporation in discussions with vendors, internal stakeholders, and external partners regarding voice and data network solutions.
- Graduate of Electrical/Computer/Electronics Engineering from a University of recognized standing plus a minimum of seven years related engineering work experience.
- Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a specified amount of time).
- Demonstrated ability to perform all supervisor responsibilities and lead technical teams.
- Advanced technical knowledge in telecommunications network design and implementation.
- Ability to plan, design, organize, and control all aspects of complex voice or data projects.
- Demonstrated understanding of the design and operation of voice and data systems.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively use MS Office, drawing, and GIS database computer applications.
- Must have a valid Province of Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence.
