CLASS TITLE: IT Security Specialist (Analyst)

SALARY GRADE: 12, Pay Range: $73,881.60 - $87,000.00 per year

Job Summary And Distinguishing Features Of The Work

This position is the security specialist for the City computer systems. Responsibilities include: the monitoring of security measures for the protection of the network; the documentation of all relevant cybersecurity standard operating procedures and policies; the proper operation of all proactive threat mitigation measures; the remediation of identified vulnerabilities or

security events; security education and training; maintains current knowledge of relevant technology and industry best practices. This position will also be involved in physical security issues with our buildings and access control as well as participates in special projects and other duties as assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the IT Director.

  • Develop technical solutions and new security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks.
  • Investigate, document, and report on information security issues and emerging trends.
  • Create and configure new user accounts in Active Directory (AD), Office 365, email systems, and other enterprise applications.
  • Lead the City security awareness program utilizing KnowBe4 Security Awareness platform.
  • Conduct real-time and historical analysis of network traffic, systems/application logs; correlating such to improve security posture.
  • Analyzing, triaging, remediation, escalating, and reporting on security events including investigation of anomalous network activity, and responds to cyber incidents within the network environment.
  • Monitor and maintain physical security solutions including Access Control (LenelS2) and building alarm system
  • (Total Connect 2).
  • Continuously tune security tools to minimize false positives, maximize detection, and prevention effectiveness.
  • Respond to service desk tickets and assist in the operation of the City’s information system.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State regulations applicable to cybersecurity.
  • Knowledge of cloud backup technologies and recovery planning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal and collaborative skills; and the ability to interact, communicate and relate security and risk-related concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Special Projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information System Security, Computer Science Security or a related field; and,
  • Moderate progressively responsible related experience; or,
  • Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Licenses and Certifications:
  • Valid Driver’s License Network Security or related certification or working towards certification

Knowledge Of

  • This classification involves seldom physical agility requirements such as: climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, repetitive motions and manual dexterity. This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a normal office environment with some exposure to outdoor temperatures or dirt and dust.
  • The incumbent's working conditions are typically moderately quiet.
