Are you ready to lead within a dynamic and innovative organisation? Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Project Director to join their Internal Consulting Team in Lisbon, Portugal. In this key role, you will collaborate closely with various business units, acting as a project expert and trusted advisor. Your focus will be on delivering exceptional value across the organisation by driving projects to successful outcomes — meeting critical goals on time and within budget.

As a leader in this role, you will establish operational excellence, serving as the face of the Internal Consulting Team’s project management services. You will define and deliver quality outcomes for projects, respond to business demands, and ensure the seamless execution of initiatives from initiation to completion.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage complex, cross-functional projects with high risk and ambiguity, ensuring strong and aligned project baselines.
• Typically lead projects visible to senior leadership, delivering organisational benefits of over €5–10 million.
• Provide line management for Project Managers, including recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing task management.
• Oversee multiple project teams across various workstreams, managing simultaneous projects where capacity allows.
• Adopt a coaching mentality to align team quality standards, share knowledge, and foster accountability.
• Define, implement, and oversee project governance across complex stakeholder landscapes.
• Capture and validate project scope and requirements, securing business sign-off before moving to the design phase.
• Ensure change management is embedded from the outset of projects, coordinating closely with design teams.
• Collaborate with workstream leads to create and execute complex, consolidated project and programme plans, adapting to changing needs.
• Drive accountability by identifying actions, assigning responsibilities, and ensuring timely completion.
• Manage relationships with workstream leads and key stakeholders to capture business requirements and assess project impact.
• Adhere to the client’s Enterprise PMO project management methodology.

Requirements

• 10+ years’ experience in programme/project management for large, complex projects.
• Proven ability to manage projects in a global organisation.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
• Experience managing risks, evaluating alternatives, and planning mitigation strategies.
• Comfortable working in complex matrix organisations across diverse, global teams.
• Ability to articulate complex concepts clearly, ensuring understanding and alignment.
• Experience interpreting unstructured information and translating it into actionable business requirements.
• A track record of leading teams spanning multiple business areas with diverse experience levels.
• Expertise in relationship management, including navigating internal political landscapes.
• Demonstrable success in delivering high-risk, high-value projects.
• Proficiency in budget management and control.
• Significant experience presenting to senior executives through written and verbal communication.
