Our client, a leading organisation operating complex field-based technology environments, is seeking a Network Specialist to design, implement, and maintain reliable communication networks across multiple operational sites.
This role is critical in ensuring stable connectivity, robust Wi-Fi infrastructure, and secure data flow between field systems, IoT devices, and central platforms. The ideal candidate will be experienced in deploying and maintaining networks in challenging or distributed environments, with a focus on reliability, security, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Network Design & Deployment
- Plan, configure, and deploy LAN/WAN and Wi-Fi networks across multiple sites.
- Conduct site surveys and optimise access point placement for maximum coverage and resilience.
- Configure routers, switches, and wireless controllers suited to varied environments.
- Implement redundancy and failover mechanisms for mission-critical systems.
Operations & Maintenance
- Monitor network performance and proactively resolve connectivity issues.
- Perform regular maintenance, firmware updates, and patch management on network devices.
- Troubleshoot issues efficiently to minimise downtime.
- Maintain clear and up-to-date network documentation.
Security & Reliability
- Implement network security protocols including firewalls, VPNs, and access controls.
- Protect against unauthorised access and cyber threats.
- Set up network monitoring and alerting systems to track uptime and anomalies.
- Collaborate with DevOps, QA, and Technical Leads to ensure reliability and compliance.
Collaboration & Support
- Partner with on-site teams to support setup, deployment, and troubleshooting.
- Work closely with software and systems engineers on connectivity integrations.
- Provide training and guidance to local staff on network procedures and issue escalation.
Requirements
- Degree or technical qualification in Computer Engineering, Networking, or related discipline.
- 5+ years' experience as a Network Engineer or Specialist, ideally in large-scale or distributed environments.
- Strong knowledge of Wi-Fi technologies, routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
- Experience with ruggedised or enterprise-grade networking equipment.
- Proficiency with network monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, PRTG, Zabbix).
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs, and routing protocols.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and network resilience design.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with a hands-on approach.
