Role Overview
Reporting to the CEO, the Business Development Manager will expand Hydra ESG’s footprint across Qatar and the wider Gulf region. The role involves owning the commercial pipeline, identifying opportunities, shaping solutions and building relationships with government entities and private‑sector organisations. Success requires strategic thinking, knowledge of global ESG frameworks, and the ability to navigate Qatar’s and region evolving ESG landscape.
Key Responsibilities
· Strategic Market Development: Conduct market research to identify trends, opportunities and the competitive landscape. Develop and implement a business development plan with measurable goals and KPIs, and tailor solutions to national initiatives such as Qatar Vision 2030 and adapt strategies to to evolving ESG reporting requirements.
· Government & Institutional Relations: Build and manage relationships with ministries, regulators and institutional stakeholders. Engage with bodies such as the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Qatar Financial Markets Authority and the Qatar Stock Exchange to stay ahead of policy changes and leverage the Sustainable Finance Framework.
· Brand Representation: Represent Hydra ESG in Doha, articulating the firm’s value proposition to senior decision‑makers and institutional partners. Serve as a strategic consultant on sustainability, guiding clients through ESG strategy and road‑mapping. Build and maintain client relationships, acting as the primary point of contact and delivering tailored presentations.
· Policy Engagement: Monitor global and regional ESG standards and advise clients on their application. Contribute to national sustainability initiatives by providing input on draft regulations and communicating regulatory shifts to clients.
· Proposal & Partnership Development: Prepare proposals, concept notes and MoUs for collaborations with government and strategic partners. Generate leads through networking and participation in industry events, coordinate with internal teams to align solutions with client needs and negotiate terms and pricing to close deals.
· Opportunity Scouting & Stakeholder Mapping: Identify advisory projects, funding opportunities and partnerships across Qatar and the region. Map key ESG actors–including ministries, agencies and NGOs–and track leads and opportunities using CRM tools. Prepare reports for senior management and prioritise opportunities based on market conditions. Engage with private‑sector organisations in energy, finance, construction and other sectors embracing ESG practices.
Qualifications and Experience
· ESG Business Development: Five to seven years of experience in business development, sales or account management with a record of delivering revenue growth. Familiarity with sustainability as a business domain is essential.
· Global Standards Expertise: Strong knowledge of international ESG and sustainability frameworks–such as GRI, SASB, IFRS Sustainability Standards, CSRD, TCFD and the UN SDGs–and the ability to advise clients on their adoption.
· Regulatory Awareness: Deep understanding of ESG policy and regulatory developments across Qatar, the Gulf region and key global markets. This includes national initiatives such as Qatar Vision 2030 and the National Climate Change Action Plan, regional governance codes and sustainable finance frameworks, as well as awareness of international sustainability disclosure standards, and the ability to monitor and interpret new requirements.
· Sales & Negotiation: Experience managing complex sales cycles, responding to RFPs/RFIs and negotiating contracts. Ability to coordinate post‑sale handovers and ensure clear communication across stakeholders.
· Communication & Languages: Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills; capable of engaging with C‑suite executives. Proficiency in English is required; Arabic or other regional languages are advantageous.
· Education & mindset: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Policy, Environmental Studies, International Relations or a related field; a master’s degree or recognised ESG certification is a plus. Entrepreneurial, autonomous and culturally sensitive, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
