The Journal on Ethnopolitics and Minority Issues in Europe (JEMIE) is seeking a qualified web designer/developer to carry out a visual and functional update of our website, including our submission platform. Our journal is hosted on Open Journal Systems (OJS), and we aim to modernize the design, improve usability, and enhance the publication workflow for editors, authors, and readers.
Scope of Work
We are looking for someone to:
- Refresh the visual design and layout of the JEMIE website to create a more modern, appealing, and user-friendly interface.
- Improve the navigation and accessibility, ensuring that readers can easily browse, search, and access journal content.
- Integrate different types of content (e.g., articles, special issues, multimedia, announcements) in a coherent and engaging way.
- Integrate content sharing plugins for JEMIE social media outlets.
- Optimize the publication process and editorial workflow within OJS to improve efficiency and usability for authors, reviewers, and editors.
- Ensure the updated platform is compatible across devices and meets accessibility standards.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in web design and user experience (UX), with a portfolio of similar projects.
- Proven experience with Open Journal Systems (OJS) development, customization, and theming.
- Knowledge of academic publishing workflows is an asset.
- Ability to communicate effectively with an editorial team and translate requirements into practical solutions.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
