Our challenge
We are seeking an innovative and experienced AI Scientist to lead the development and deployment of artificial intelligence solutions tailored for our banking operations. The ideal candidate will leverage advanced machine learning (ML), deep learning, and NLP techniques to drive insights, automate processes, and enhance our customer experience while ensuring compliance and security.
Additional Information*
The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Toronto, ON is CAD $120k – CAD $135k/year & benefits (see below).
The Role
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and implement AI and ML models to address banking challenges such as risk assessment, fraud detection, customer segmentation, credit scoring, and personalized banking services.
- Explore and analyze large volumes of structured and unstructured data to derive actionable insights.
- Build and optimize NLP models for chatbots, customer service automation, and document processing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, operations, risk, compliance) to identify opportunities for AI-driven solutions.
- Conduct research on emerging AI trends and incorporate relevant technologies into the bank’s AI strategy.
- Ensure the interpretability and fairness of AI models, adhering to regulatory and ethical standards.
- Validate, test, and deploy models in production environments, maintaining their performance over time.
- Document models, methodologies, and processes for compliance and reproducibility.
- Provide technical training and support to internal teams as needed.
Requirements:
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, Machine Learning, or related field.
- Proven experience (3+ years) in developing AI/ML models in the banking or financial services domain.
- Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Java.
- Hands-on experience with ML frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, XGBoost).
- Expertise in NLP techniques, including transformers, BERT, GPT, and text analytics.
- Experience with data processing tools (SQL, Apache Spark, Hadoop) and big data ecosystems.
- Familiarity with AI governance, fairness, model interpretability, and compliance standards.
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of banking operations, credit risk, fraud, AML, KYC processes is a plus.
Preferred, but not required:
- Relevant certifications in AI/ML or Data Science (e.g., TensorFlow, AWS Certified Machine Learning).
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Prior experience working in banking or financial institutions on AI projects.
