Job Title: Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst
Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (Remote – must be available for occasional onsite meetings)
Employment Type: Contract (6 months)
Contract Duration: November 1, 2025 – April 30, 2026
About the Role
We are seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst to support the Government of Alberta’s Data Strategy and related initiatives. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and developing analytical data products, transforming complex data into actionable insights, and enabling evidence-based decision-making across ministries. This role directly contributes to the OneGovernment Data Vision, promoting innovation, collaboration, and enhanced citizen services through data-driven solutions.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and deliver data products and dashboards that support GoA’s strategic data initiatives.
• Translate business requirements into analytical solutions, ensuring clear communication of insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Conduct data analysis, data modeling, and data quality assessments across multiple large-scale datasets.
• Develop advanced Power BI visualizations, reports, and storytelling dashboards for executive-level decision-making.
• Utilize DAX and Power BI time intelligence features for advanced analytics, forecasting, and performance tracking.
• Integrate and transform data from diverse sources using SQL and Azure analytics tools.
• Collaborate with cross-ministry stakeholders to identify business intelligence needs and ensure solutions align with GoA’s Data Strategy.
• Support metadata management, governance, and lifecycle documentation for all developed data assets.
• Present analytical findings to leadership and provide actionable recommendations to improve service delivery.
• Ensure compliance with privacy, security, and data management best practices.
Mandatory Skills & Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of experience delivering end-to-end BI solutions using Power BI and Azure analytics services.
• Proven expertise developing advanced Power BI dashboards, DAX measures, and time intelligence calculations.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, transformation, and data storytelling techniques.
• Hands-on experience in SQL for complex querying, transformation, and analytical processing.
• Demonstrated experience analyzing large, complex datasets for forecasting, predictive analytics, and strategic planning.
• Experience working with government or regulated datasets in a large-scale environment.
• Excellent client communication skills with the ability to explain complex data concepts in clear, actionable terms.
Preferred Skills
• Experience with Government of Alberta cloud environments and large public-sector data programs.
• Familiarity with Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, or equivalent cloud-based analytics tools.
• Experience creating data-driven presentations for senior executives and public-sector stakeholders.
• Understanding of metadata management, data governance frameworks, and data quality standards.
