Are you a competent game programmer who is interested in contributing to the scientific research on behavior change? If so, you are the right person for this job! In the NWO-funded project, we are aiming to develop a mobile game as a research tool for studying how people change habits. The end product should be a mobile game that captures the essential processes of habit change in the real world (e.g., eating habits, personal hygiene habits) and at the same time allows precise experimental control for research purposes. You will work closely with the project’s principle investigator (PI) dr. Chao Zhang (Assistant Professor in the Human-Technology Group, Department of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences) to make this game possible. Your main tasks are:
- Together with the PI, you design the game conceptually based on requirements from habit theories and research
- Develop the (mobile) video game using the Unity game engine
- Test the game from a technical point of view
- Write documentation to support continuous research and development
You are a good fit for the job if you:
- Have at least a HBO/University degree in the field of software engineering, game development, or a related field
- Have experience programming games using the Unity game engine
- Are knowledgeable of extracting player behavioral data from games
- Are curious about using video games for scientific research
- Have good communication skills and can commit to the project

- A contract via our partner EUflex for 6 months (0.5 fte)
- A parttime contract for 16-20 hours a week. If you prefer to work more or less hours a week, please discuss this with the hiring manager
- A monthly salary of minimum €3,004 to maximum €3,465 for full-time employment, depending on your knowledge and experience (scale 5 collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities).
- In addition to vacation pay, a structural end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
