Acre is delighted to partner with Better Cotton in seeking to appoint three Independent Council Members, each bringing one of these core skillsets, to join its highest governing body at a pivotal time in the organisation's journey.
Are you a senior executive or non-executive with expertise in law and labour rights/human rights, international fundraising and finance, or gender and inclusion? Do you bring experience of on-the-ground programme implementation and want to help shape the strategy and governance of the world's largest cotton sustainability initiative?
About Better Cotton
Better Cotton is the world's largest cotton sustainability initiative, working to transform the cotton industry to become more sustainable and equitable. Partnering with farmers, governments, and company supply chains, Better Cotton has positively impacted millions of livelihoods, aligning over 20% of global cotton production with its standards.
The Role
The Better Cotton Council is the organisation's top governance body, setting its strategic direction and ensuring accountability to stakeholders. As Independent Council Members, you will bring external expertise and fresh perspectives that complement the voices of farmers, industry, civil society and retailers represented on the Council.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the strategic leadership of a mission-driven, global initiative, ensuring that Better Cotton continues to strengthen and advance global sustainability efforts in cotton supply chains.
Your impact
- Provide independent oversight, challenge and support to the organisation's leadership.
- Contribute specialist expertise in one of three key areas:
1. Human Rights and Labor Rights
2. Innovative Finance and Resource Mobilisation
3. Gender and Inclusion
- Bring practical, on-the-ground implementation experience, ensuring decisions reflect realities across producer regions.
- Ensure the Council's decision-making remains inclusive, accountable and effective.
- Help strengthen governance and risk management across a complex, international organisation.
What you will bring
- Senior-level experience in one or more of the three areas above.
- Proven exposure to programme delivery or implementation in the field, ideally within emerging markets or agricultural supply chains.
- Previous board, trustee or senior governance experience.
- The ability to bring an independent perspective and sound judgement to complex issues.
- A commitment to sustainability, inclusive decision-making and Better Cotton's mission.
- We are particularly keen to hear from individuals based in or with strong ties to underrepresented regions, especially across cotton-producing countries.
This is a career-defining opportunity to shape the future of a global sustainability initiative and ensure it continues to deliver positive impact at scale.
