Senior Data Scientist Warehousing – Product team Optimize Stock Steering
Netherlands
· Full-time
·
Mid-Senior
How do you make our customers happy?
By developing and optimizing plans and models that increase the storage capacity of our warehouses. On-time delivery of customer orders is a key responsibility of our warehousing teams. Because our warehouse capacity is not unlimited, we must make smart decisions about what articles to store, and where, to guarantee fast delivery to our customers.
As a Senior Data Scientist in the Optimize Stock Steering team, you will play a central role in optimizing existing processes as well as designing new ones that help us get the most out of our warehouses. This is a complex puzzle to solve together with our multidisciplinary team. Ultimately, your involvement and technical skills will directly increase the number of items we can process — which contributes to one of bol’s key organizational goals.
To succeed in this role, experience in working with SQL (BigQuery) and Python is essential. Bonus points if you bring Data Engineering experience (ETL, Airflow), have worked with Google Cloud Platform, or are familiar with Kotlin/Java.
The biggest challenge
Our warehouses are large, but not infinite. The challenge is to find the right balance between capacity, operational efficiency, and the customer promise. This requires more than just building models; it demands strategic thinking about how decisions ripple through the logistics chain. You will need to quickly grasp complex challenges, consider feasibility, and balance innovation with pragmatism: what works today and scales tomorrow.
What You’ll Do As Data Scientist
You combine technical expertise with strategic thinking and strong communication skills. You thrive on solving complex puzzles in a collaborative setting and are motivated by directly contributing to a key company goal.

You will join the Optimize Stock Steering team — a relatively new and ambitious team dedicated to enhancing warehouse efficiency. The team thrives on solving complex puzzles and takes pride in directly contributing to bol’s customer promise. Our energy comes from working closely across disciplines, creating tangible improvements, and celebrating the impact our solutions have on one of bol’s most important goals.
We take pride in our B Corp certification and strive for continuous improvement every day. Our annual bonus is tied to sustainability goals, and we are committed to equality and equal opportunities for all.
