About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Android Developer to join our dynamic team working on the NHS App, a vital digital healthcare platform used by millions across England. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining features for the Android version of the NHS App, contributing to a high-quality, scalable, and user-centric application. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, product management, infrastructure, and testing to deliver innovative solutions that enhance user experience and meet healthcare standards. Your expertise will ensure the app remains performant, reliable, and compliant with all relevant regulations, supporting the health and wellbeing of the public.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in Android development using Kotlin and Android Studio. You should possess a strong understanding of Android design principles, interface guidelines, and architecture patterns such as MVVM. A good grasp of SOLID principles and clean coding practices is essential. Experience with continuous integration and delivery pipelines, troubleshooting, and performance optimization is required. Familiarity with Jetpack Compose, native OS features like push notifications, Health Connect, and Intents, as well as RESTful API integration, will be highly advantageous. A proactive approach to problem-solving, excellent collaboration skills, and a passion for mobile development are key qualities for success in this role.

You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to produce clean, efficient, and well-documented code, ensuring adherence to best practices and industry standards. Creating comprehensive unit and integration tests to guarantee application stability and performance is essential. You will optimize solutions for speed and responsiveness to provide an exceptional user experience. Ensuring compliance with Google Play store requirements and collaborating with UI/UX designers to implement intuitive visual designs will be part of your daily tasks. Additionally, you will support your deliverables in production, troubleshoot issues, and implement performance improvements as needed. Your role also involves staying current with the latest Android development trends and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
