We are looking for a seasoned Senior Android / Embedded OS Engineer to maintain, extend, and customize Android Open Source Project (AOSP) for our custom System on Module (SoM) hardware. You’ll help shape a secure, high-performance Android OS powering next-generation enterprise and biometric devices.
Responsibilities:
- Develop Android Open Source Project (AOSP) for our custom hardware.
- Integrate and manage drivers, HALs, kernel modules, and system services required by scanning hardware (camera, depth, IR, sensors).
- Drive performance optimization across memory use, latency (especially in biometric acquisition and matching), and boot time.
- Maintain documentation, conduct code reviews, and uphold version control best practices.
Required Skills / Experience:
- Deep experience with AOSP / Android platform internals (system services, build system, frameworks).
- Experience building Android for custom hardware (non-reference devices).
- Strong command of Linux kernel, device drivers, and kernel debugging.
- Excellent debugging skills: trace, perf, power profiling, systrace, ftrace.
Optional Skills:
- Experience with Qualcomm SoMs / chipsets (e.g., Snapdragon family).
- Experience with Qualcomm, NXP, MediaTek or other SoCs, or cross-platform porting.
- Background in biometric systems or image pipelines (camera, IR, sensor fusion).
- Experience with payment / POS / security certifications (e.g., PCI, EMV, CC, FIPS).
- Real-time or near real-time system design expertise.
- Experience in bring-up of hardware and software during early prototype stages.
Required Soft Skills:
- Strong communicator, able to interface with hardware, firmware, cloud, and product teams.
- Self-driven and proactive — capable of identifying and solving issues independently in a startup environment.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid iteration.
Seniority / Expectations:
We are looking for a mid/senior engineer with multiple past projects in custom AOSP or embedded Android development. Because the domain is demanding, candidates with several successful hardware porting or platform integration projects are preferred.
