The Position

Lunar Medical is seeking a skilled and creative Computer Engineer (Intermediate Level) to join our team to help develop medical monitoring and diagnostic solutions for spaceflight and austere terrestrial environments.


In this role, you will design, develop, and test embedded systems, with a focus on low-power and wireless technologies. Working closely with medical experts, computer engineers, software developers, data scientists, and space system specialists, you will help ensure our products meet the most demanding operational requirements and industry standards.

Salary Range: $125,000-135,000 (CAD) + Benefits


Tasks and Responsibilities

As Computer Engineer, you will:

  • Optimize reliable data acquisition, secure data transfer and seamless wireless connectivity 
  • Take technical ownership of firmware components and their integrations 
  • Design and develop firmware on MCUs and SoC platforms
  • Support testing, validation, and documentation to ensure high-quality, regulatory-compliant solutions 
  • Apply sound engineering principles to find resolutions to issues while still meeting mission requirements
  • Work in small, cross-functional engineering teams to bring-forth new health monitoring devices to the market
  • Travel with team members to operational environments to help define requirements and field test technologies


Key Qualifications

As a Computer Engineer, you have:

  • A Bachelor's (or higher) degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience in Computer Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in embedded C/C++ for embedded system development
  • Experience in Python
  • Experience with wireless protocol implementations (BLE + Wifi)
  • Experience with firmware security protocols
  • A good understanding of computer architecture, embedded design and ARM assembly
  • A good understanding of software engineering practices
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • The ability to present complex technical concepts to leadership and external stakeholders as required


In addition to the above, the following experiences would be seen as “nice to have”:

  • Exposure to machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn, especially for edge inference or physiological data analysis
  • Experience developing web or desktop applications using frameworks like ASP.NET Core, FastAPI, React, or Vue.js
  • Familiarity with signal processing techniques (e.g., filtering, FFT, peak detection) for biosensor data analysis
  • Experience with edge AI deployment or tinyML on embedded platforms
  • Understanding of hardware interfaces and protocols such as CAN, Modbus, RS-485, or USB
  • Experience with PCB Design
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git), CI/CD pipelines, and Agile development practices
  • Previous experience in operational settings, including maritime, military, and space environments


Location

  • Fully In-person work requires you to be in our Hamilton office
  • Some travel may be required at certain times for this role, including both domestic and international


Special Considerations:

  • Successful candidates must be able to obtain and hold Canadian security clearance at the reliability status level and pass a security assessment for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP). These clearances involve a detailed background investigation, including criminal record, credit, and reference checks.
