Position Description

Swarmbotics is seeking an experienced Android Developer to join our mobile development team, building mission-critical command-and-control interfaces for ground robot swarms. This role will focus on developing and maintaining Android plugins for ATAK (Android Team Awareness Kit) - a tactical situational awareness and mapping platform used by military and first responders. The ideal candidate will combine strong Android expertise with an ability to architect real-time operational interfaces and deliver reliable user experiences in dynamic environments.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of Android development experience with a focus on real-time or interactive applications
  • Extensive knowledge of modern Android architecture patterns and development best practices
  • Proficiency with Kotlin, including flows, coroutines, and async programming
  • Experience implementing complex UI systems using both Jetpack Compose and the legacy View system, with a focus on real-time interfaces
  • Experience with dependency injection frameworks (Dagger)
  • Experience with real-time data management and streaming architectures
  • Experience with video processing and streaming in Android applications
  • Comfortable working with the Gradle build system, including module configuration and build customization
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams and communicating technical decisions to stakeholders
  • Comfort working in the high-paced, fluid environment of a tech startup
  • Ability to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance
  • Ability to relocate to Phoenix, AZ

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing plugins for ATAK (Android Team Awareness Kit)
  • Background in implementing map-based features and interactive overlays
  • Understanding of the Cursor on Target (CoT) protocol and TAK data synchronization
  • Experience with TAK Server integration
  • Knowledge of military terminology and operational environments
  • Experience with field testing, deployment, and certification processes for mobile applications
  • Background in UX/UI design and familiarity with design tools (e.g., Figma)
  • Background in game development or other interactive software systems
  • BS in Computer Science or related field
