About the role
We’re seeking a highly experienced Senior Android Engineer to join a talented and collaborative mobile team focused on delivering exceptional user experiences in a consumer-facing app. You’ll work closely with designers, product owners, and other engineers to design, build, and enhance mobile features, ensuring high-quality, maintainable, and scalable code. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, creative environment and enjoys shaping both technology and culture.
Responsibilities
- Work with designers, product owners, QA, and engineers to develop and improve app features.
- Design, estimate, and build new functionalities for the Android platform.
- Translate product requirements into actionable engineering tasks.
- Produce high-quality, well-documented, and well-tested code.
- Proactively find and fix bugs, and perform performance optimization.
- Collaborate with product managers and designers to deliver intuitive and polished UI/UX.
- Review pull requests and support teammates when they’re blocked.
- Contribute to the broader engineering culture by suggesting tools, ideas, and improvements.
Must have skills
- 7+ years of software development experience.
- 4+ years of Android development experience.
- Proficiency in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and Coroutines.
- Strong understanding of MVVM architecture.
- Experience with Gradle, Firebase, and REST APIs.
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality, maintainable, and well-documented code.
- Experience collaborating with designers and product managers.
- Strong sense of ownership and responsibility for delivered work.
Nice to have skills
- Experience with Swift for iOS development.
- Familiarity with Postman, Figma, GitHub Actions, Room, Jira, or Confluence.
- Exposure to AWS, Python, or GraphQL within broader engineering ecosystems.
- Interest in contributing to open-source projects.
Conditions
- This is a remote position open to candidates based in Canada or the United Kingdom. It has an 8-hour overlap with the UTC-4 timezone.
- Contractor role – 12-month contract, renewable.
- Full-time dedication (40 hours/week).
