Senior Director/Director of Delivery Management – Banking – Contract – Dublin
12 months
Market rate
3 days per week on site in Dublin.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a strategic and critical program, end-to-end, for a client in the banking sector
- Manage client relationships and expectations, representing delivery at the governance level
- Coordinate multiple activity streams and clients, ensuring seamless delivery across all aspects, including finance, sourcing, implementation and business outcomes
- Work closely with multi-disciplined teams of product owners, architects, engineers and quality assurance to drive estimates, delivery plans and retrospectives
- Proactively identify and manage engagement risks, escalating major issues early on
- Participate in business development efforts for both existing and new clients, continuously identifying new opportunities
- Engage in the entire pre-sales cycle, prepare client proposals, define implementation and design and present solution architecture and delivery statements of work
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in banking and financial services with at least 3-5 years specifically in mobile banking or digital banking platforms
- Deep understanding of banking regulations, compliance requirements (PSD2, GDPR, PCI-DSS), and security standards for mobile financial applications
- Experience with open banking APIs, payment systems, and mobile wallet integrations
- Deep understanding and hands-on experience with Software Development Life Cycle and various methodologies, experience with both Agile and Waterfall delivery models
- Hands-on experience delivering complex projects, managing client stakeholders on all levels and successfully driving IT services engagements
- Ability to establish solid working relationships with clients, plus the ability to work effectively as a member of a dynamic, dispersed virtual team and to meet deadlines
- Excellent communication, presentation and planning skills
- Exceptional organizational, leadership and stakeholder management skills
- Proficient in Agile methodology and iterative delivery approaches in order to build scalable and modern solutions
- Hands-on experience in technology and software engineering practices with the ability to supervise and suggest competitive technical decisions and assure a winning mix of delivery practices applied on the project
- Proven track record of successfully managing multiple complex projects simultaneously from initiation to delivery whilst prioritizing tasks effectively, leveraging geographically distributed delivery teams.
- Work closely with multi-disciplined teams including mobile engineers, backend developers, product owners, architects, UX designers, and QA specialists to drive estimates, delivery plans, and retrospectives
- Manage hybrid teams with mobile specialists, backend engineers, and designers collaborating in agile squads across distributed locations
- Coach and mentor delivery managers, scrum masters, and agile coaches within your programs
- Foster a culture of psychological safety, experimentation, and continuous learning
Nice to Have
Advanced Mobile Technologies
- Experience with cross-platform frameworks (React Native, Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform) and ability to advise on native vs. hybrid architectural decisions
- Knowledge of progressive web apps (PWAs) for banking, mobile edge computing, and offline-first architectures
- Experience with wearable integrations (Apple Watch, WearOS) for banking features
- Deep familiarity with mobile accessibility standards (WCAG mobile guidelines, inclusive design principles)
Emerging Banking & FinTech
- Experience in neobanks, challenger banks, or digital-only banking initiatives
- Knowledge of embedded finance and Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) platforms
- Understanding of blockchain/distributed ledger technology applications in banking
- Background in legacy system modernization while maintaining continuous mobile service availability
Cloud-Native & Modern Architecture
- Experience with serverless architectures supporting mobile applications (AWS Amplify, Firebase, Azure Mobile Apps, Supabase)
- Knowledge of microservices architecture optimized for mobile consumption
- Understanding of event-driven architectures and real-time data synchronization for mobile apps
- Familiarity with containerization and Kubernetes for mobile backend services
Advanced Agile & DevOps Practices
- Experience with continuous delivery/continuous deployment for mobile including automated releases, feature flags, canary deployments, and A/B testing frameworks
- Familiarity with Dual-Track Agile (discovery + delivery) and Lean UX methodologies
- Experience with OKRs and outcome-driven delivery models
- Knowledge of Team Topologies, platform engineering, and developer experience optimization
Industry Certifications
- SAFe Program Consultant (SPC), SAFe Agilist (SA), or similar scaled agile certifications
- PMP, Prince2, or equivalent project management certifications
- Scrum Master (CSM/PSM II+) or Product Owner (CSPO/PSPO) certifications
- Cloud certifications (AWS/Azure/GCP Solutions Architect or Developer)
- Mobile-specific certifications (iOS/Android developer certifications)
