About Kic

Kic is one of Australia’s most loved wellness platforms helping people build stronger bodies, calmer minds, and more connected lives through movement, mindfulness, and rituals that fit real life.

We combine technology, content, and community to create everyday experiences that empower people to feel truly well inside and out.

As we evolve from a fitness app into a holistic wellness ecosystem, we’re building a platform that’s increasingly intelligent - using AI to make wellbeing more personal, adaptive, and effective.

The Role

As a Senior Software Engineer at Kic, you’ll play a key role in shaping and scaling our digital platform - bringing together movement, mindset, and community into seamless, meaningful experiences.

You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to design elegant, maintainable systems that deliver exceptional user experiences. Beyond shipping code, you’ll help set the technical direction, improve how we build, and elevate the quality and performance of everything we release.

We’re looking for someone who’s full-stack, but with a strong bias towards mobile. You’ll be working primarily on the KIC mobile app, but also on some of their other products which cross over into web.

What You’ll Do

Technical Ownership

  • Design, build, and maintain high-quality, scalable software systems that power the Kic experience.
  • Drive architecture and technical design decisions that balance innovation, performance, and maintainability.
  • Partner with product and design to translate concepts into robust, user-centric digital experiences.
  • Champion best practices for code quality, testing, performance, and security.

Collaboration and Delivery

  • Collaborate closely within a cross-functional squad working with Product Managers, Designers, and Content Creators to deliver impactful features.
  • Contribute to roadmap discussions by helping estimate complexity, identify dependencies, and de-risk delivery.
  • Participate in code reviews, retros, and release planning with a focus on learning and continuous improvement.

Craft & Leadership

  • Mentor other engineers, sharing knowledge and helping raise the technical bar across the team.
  • Introduce new ideas, tools, or patterns that improve developer experience and team velocity.
  • Take ownership of incidents and improvements -seeing issues through from diagnosis to resolution.
  • Lead by example in balancing quality, speed, and empathy for the user.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • 5+ years of experience as a software engineer in a product-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in modern mobile and web technologies (React Native with Expo, TypeScript, Node.js, MongoDB/NoSQL).
  • Strong understanding of system design, API architecture, and cloud infrastructure (AWS or similar).
  • Experience with headless/composable architectures and integrating multiple SaaS platforms
  • Experience integrating or working with AI technologies - e.g. recommendation systems like Recombee), content generation, natural language understanding, or Third-part LLM integrations.
  • Experience with payment integrations and subscription management.
  • Understanding of mobile app monetisation (IAPs, subscription platforms)
  • Experience working in cross-functional agile teams delivering production-ready features.
  • A builder’s mindset - pragmatic, curious, and comfortable working across the stack.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; able to partner closely with design and product.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Segment or similar CDP/analytics platforms
  • Recombee or other recommendation engines
  • Native mobile development (Swift/Kotlin) for when React Native needs bridging
  • Experience with Expo's ecosystem and EAS.
  • Next.js
  • You’re motivated by purpose - building technology that genuinely helps people live healthier, happier lives.
  • You value quality and craft, but never lose sight of impact.
  • You thrive in collaborative environments where diverse voices create better outcomes.
  • You love solving problems that blend human behaviour, design, and engineering.

Why You’ll Love Working at Kic

  • A mission-led team passionate about impact, not just output.
  • A supportive, inclusive culture that encourages learning and growth.
  • Flexible working environment that values results over rigidity.
  • The opportunity to shape one of Australia’s most loved wellness brands.
