About This Team
Aiven Unify’s mission is simple: help customers quickly discover, govern, and query their data—delivering value in minutes, not months.
Our first step is building a managed, single-tenant metadata discovery and governance service that automatically pulls in metadata from Aiven services and aligns Aiven Teams/roles with catalog policies.
Who We Are
So, how do we become the trusted open source data platform for everyone? By listening closely to our customers and taking action to ensure they achieve their business goals. You see, the software we create is merely a means of delivering value. Our thinking is customer-first. That’s why our customers are at the front and center of all we do. And in the spirit of sideways thinking, we’re by their side as well. Actively helping them solve their challenges. Collaborating. Sharing. And innovating. In other words, it really isn’t just about who we are. It’s about who our customers are – and where they want to be.
The Role:
We’re building a set of new managed Aiven services that will enable seamless discovery, governance, and access to data. To make this work seamlessly for customers, we need the Aiven Console (our web UI) to guide setup, configuration, and governance.
We’re looking for a Senior Fullstack Engineer who’s excited to work across backend and frontend. You’ll build services, APIs, and ingestion pipelines while also driving the Console experience that makes this product easy to adopt and use.
What You'll Do:
- Shape the customer experience in the Aiven Console: design and implement UI flows that make setting up and managing the metadata service simple and intuitive.
- Work across the stack: backend (JVM/GraphQL, Python ingestion) and frontend (React/TypeScript) to deliver end-to-end functionality.
- Extend backend services & APIs that power ingestion, metadata indexing, and policy enforcement.
- Collaborate with design & product to create clear, usable interfaces for configuring metadata discovery, policies, and governance.
- Integrate identity & access controls (RBAC/ABAC) into both backend and frontend, ensuring security and usability.
- Ensure operability: write code that’s observable, testable, and reliable—supporting zero-downtime upgrades and troubleshooting via logs/metrics/traces.
- Partner closely with backend and platform engineers to make sure Console, APIs, and services fit together smoothly.
- Proven experience as a fullstack engineer with strong skills in both backend and frontend development.
- Hands-on with:
- Backend: JVM (Java/Kotlin), GraphQL, and Python for ingestion/ETL
- Frontend: React + TypeScript for UI development
- Knowledge of data systems: PostgreSQL/MySQL, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, Kafka.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes/Helm, Terraform/IaC, and cloud networking basics.
- Strong product intuition: you care about the user experience and enjoy turning complex systems into easy-to-use tools.
- A security-first mindset: you think about policies, auditability, and compliance when designing both services and UI.
- Prior contributions to open-source projects.
- Experience with identity and access management (SSO, RBAC/ABAC) in SaaS products.
- Prior experience working in startups as one of the first hires or co-founder.
- Experience of implementing AI workflows as part of production software development
- Familiarity with Aiven-managed services (Kafka®, PostgreSQL®, OpenSearch®, ClickHouse®).
