Job Description

BOWMAN is a tactical communications system that integrates digital voice and data technology to provide secure radio, telephone, intercom, and tactical internet services in a modular, fully integrated solution. General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada (GDMS-C) is seeking a Software/Firmware Developer to join the BOWMAN product development team in Calgary and support future capability development.

The team’s mandate is to design and deliver new features and enhancements for the Bowman communication system. As a developer on this team, you will design, build, and unit test new capabilities, enhancements, and defect fixes that enable advanced communication services. These services include on- and off-platform communications, network data routing and forwarding, radio communications, headquarters communications (fibre, Non-Line of Sight, etc.), battle management and system management, as well as IT services like email, chat, custom applications, and COTS products.

The responsibilities and range of activities will vary, but in general will include:

  • Participate in scrum events including sprint planning, daily scrum, sprint reviews and retrospectives.
  • Estimation and refinement of the product and sprint backlogs.
  • Perform firmware and software design, development and unit testing as required to complete the sprint tasks.
  • Review of subsystem and product requirements specifications, interface control documents, design documents and use cases.
  • Provide support to the system engineering, and the product integration and verification test teams as required by reviewing requirements, test plans and procedures, and by providing overall firmware and software engineering expertise.
  • Collaborating closely with various engineering functions throughout the development cycle.
  • Presenting your work during design and peer reviews.
  • Some travel may be required to support internal and external customers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related scientific discipline
  • 5+ years of software/firmware development experience.
  • Strong skills in C++, C#, and C programming.
  • Experience developing in Linux OS (kernel 4.x) and Windows 10 environments.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming, UML, and modeling techniques.
  • Experience with unit testing and test-driven development.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
  • Networking expertise with technologies such as TCP/IP, UDP, IPv4, VLANs, OSPF, RIPv2, BGP4, DHCP, DNS, DSCP, etc.

It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed.
