CMUQ welcomes applications for a part-time Research Assistant position in bioethics. The position will support faculty in the Biological Sciences Program in preparing a new bioethics module for an advanced biotechnology undergraduate course. The goal of this module is to encourage students to examine novel biotechnological breakthroughs from their own ethical perspective, reflect on their personal and societal impacts, formulate hypotheses and arguments, and engage in peer discussion.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have at a minimum a Master’s degree in bioethics.

Applicants with a strong background in biology or medicine are especially encouraged to apply.

This position is open to candidates who reside in Qatar ONLY.

Application from outside Qatar will not be considered.

Responsibilities:

Working collaboratively with faculty, the researcher will use his/her expertise to research and study novel biomedical breakthroughs to:

  • Identify ethical issues/dilemmas presented by new biomedical technologies
  • Identify the stakeholders and their prevalence
  • Deconstruct the ethical problem (conflict, precedents, worst vs best-case scenarios)
  • Propose possible paths for resolution
  • Document all research

The position offers an opportunity to contribute to interdisciplinary curriculum development at the intersection of ethics and biotechnology. The position is supported by a grant from the Center for Leadership Studies at CMUP.

Start date: Immediate

Duration: 2 months (Short-term, part-time, ~10 hours per week)

Modality: Fully remote
