The Role

As a Computer Vision Engineer at Kova Labs, you’ll be building the core autonomy that defines how small aerial systems perceive and navigate the world. This isn’t a research-only role, it’s hands-on, field-driven engineering where every line of code gets tested in the real world.

You’ll work on the edge of perception, SLAM, object detection, and path planning, turning raw sensor data into reliable autonomy. You’ll design and train models with messy, real-world data, and ship systems that make our drones see, think, and act without human input.

This is a role for someone who wants to solve hard technical problems, deploy real systems, and push the boundaries of what’s possible in autonomous flight.

What You'll Do

  • Build and deploy custom CV and perception models for real-time, on-edge inference
  • Work on SLAM, visual-inertial odometry, obstacle detection, path planning, and object tracking
  • Build and manage large-scale, messy datasets from field-collected video, drone flights, and synthetic data
  • Experiment with new research ideas and translate them into production-ready solutions
  • Optimize models for low-latency, resource-constrained environments
  • Own the algorithm stack end-to-end, from research to deployment on hardware in the field

What We're Looking for

  • Strong background in computer vision, robotics, or applied ML, with real-world experience in SLAM, VIO, or related systems
  • Proficiency in Python, C++, and Rust, with experience using OpenCV, PyTorch, or TensorFlow
  • Hands-on experience training and deploying models on edge devices or embedded systems
  • Comfort working with imperfect, noisy, real-world data and turning it into production-ready solutions
  • Curiosity about cutting-edge research, combined with the pragmatism to ship working systems fast
  • Interest in autonomy, robotics, or mission-critical applications
