Virtuozzo is a global leader in server virtualization and cloud infrastructure solutions. Our technology powers thousands of data centers and hosting providers worldwide, enabling them to efficiently distribute physical resources among virtual environments — both virtual machines and containers.
We are looking for a C Developer to join our Virtualization and Kernel team and work on enhancing LibVirt, CRIU, QEMU and related components that form the backbone of Virtuozzo’s virtualization stack. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to upstream open-source projects and shape the evolution of Linux-based virtualization.
Virtuozzo welcomes engineers of all levels — what matters most is your willingness to learn and passion for Linux internals.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain LibVirt drivers supporting OpenVZ containers and other Virtuozzo virtualization technologies.
- Extend CRIU (Checkpoint/Restore in Userspace) functionality to improve container live migration and system recovery.
- Design and implement enhancements for virtual machine and container management, including live migration, live updates, and resource allocation.
- Collaborate closely with QEMU, LibVirt, and CRIU open-source communities to upstream features and ensure compatibility.
- Support internal teams and partner integrations built on top of LibVirt.
- Participate in industry events such as KVM Forum, FOSDEM, and other Linux Foundation conferences.
- Proficiency in C and experience with low-level Unix/Linux system programming.
- Understanding of virtualization technologies, process management, and Linux kernel interfaces.
- Hands-on experience with one or more of the following is a plus:
- LibVirt, QEMU, or CRIU internals
- Linux containers (OpenVZ, LXC, Docker)
- Python scripting for automation or testing
- Contribution to open-source projects (commits to kernel, QEMU, or LibVirt are highly valued)
- Strong debugging skills and ability to read and understand complex codebases.
- Ability to work in a distributed international team and communicate effectively in English.
- Remote and flexible working hours
- We help our team get private medical
- Professional growth: certification support, mentorship, and career progression pathways
- Inclusive, multicultural team: work alongside talented engineers from across the globe on infrastructure-grade cloud products
- Employee perks: recognition programs, referral bonuses, and learning initiatives such as book clubs or tech talks
- Share Options – shares in our success with share options
- Opportunity to contribute upstream and represent Virtuozzo in open-source communities.
- A collaborative environment where your contributions directly impact large-scale production infrastructure.
