The world’s most popular audio streaming subscription service is looking for a backend-leaning engineer to join the band in a consultant assignment. The client has transformed music listening forever when launched in 2008.
Period: ASAP to 2026-02-02 (full-time), with a possibility of extension.
About the role
We're looking for a backend-leaning engineer to join the ESP team at our client. You'll be helping build and maintain systems that support internal editorial workflows used daily across our client. The platform that you will be working on drives millions of weekly listens and interactions across our client's curated content such as Playlists, Browse Hubs, Destinations, and more.
What you'll do
- Work on backend services written primarily in Java, including data pipelines and GraphQL interfaces
- Contribute to infrastructure improvements and maintain Postgres-backed systems
- Collaborate with teams working in both backend and frontend TypeScript (some frontend exposure is a plus)
- Build scalable systems that power internal tools used by editors, art directors, and product teams
- Help productionize features for tools with fast feedback loops from internal users
- Participate fully in team rituals and day-to-day collaboration
Who you are
- Strong experience with Java and backend systems architecture
- Experience working with relational databases (especially PostgreSQL)
- Familiarity with GraphQL and TypeScript is a strong plus
- Comfort working across multiple systems and collaborating with frontend developers
- Bonus: experience working on publishing platforms or CMSs, or in environments where internal users are the primary customers
- How you work
- You’re a collaborative engineer who values communication and shared ownership
- You bring strong opinions, but hold them loosely
- You’re not afraid to speak up and are eager to bring people together around a shared idea
- This is a highly collaborative, cross-functional team with an emphasis on thoughtful engineering and empathetic teamwork. If you're excited about shipping internal tools that have real impact—and doing it alongside great people—we'd love to hear from you.
