Chief Operating Officer

DSD Recruitment
United States · Full-time · Executive

We are conducting a confidential search for an exceptional Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join a mission-driven healthcare organization at the forefront of innovative patient care in New York City.

This pivotal C-suite role will lead operational excellence, scalability, and strategic growth within one of the most dynamic healthcare markets in the U.S.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned healthcare executive with a proven record of transforming operations, optimizing resources, and leading high-performance teams across hospitals, health systems, or payer organizations in NYC.

If you thrive in high-stakes environments where operational leadership directly impacts patient outcomes — this is your opportunity to redefine healthcare delivery in the heart of New York.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Operations Leadership

Work with the CEO and executive team to execute long-term operational strategy — aligning clinical, financial, and regulatory goals while exploring new service lines and borough expansion.

Operational Efficiency & Optimization

Oversee clinical, administrative, and support operations using Lean methodologies, EHR systems (Epic, Cerner), and AI-driven analytics to improve patient satisfaction and reduce costs by 10–20%.

Team Building & Leadership

Lead 200+ professionals (including VPs of Operations, Clinical Services, Supply Chain). Foster a collaborative, inclusive culture reflecting NYC’s diversity.

Regulatory & Risk Management

Ensure compliance with HIPAA, Joint Commission standards, and state/federal regulations. Mitigate risks around cybersecurity, supply chain, and quality assurance.

Financial Oversight

Partner with the CFO to manage a $500M+ budget, optimize capital investments, vendor contracts, and revenue cycles to drive profitability and fund innovation.

Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management

Collaborate with board members, physicians, payers, and NYC stakeholders on initiatives like mergers, telehealth, and population health programs.

Innovation & Performance Metrics

Leverage KPIs and predictive analytics to drive decisions around value-based care and organizational performance.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 10+ years in healthcare operations; 7–10 years in leadership (VP/Director-level or higher) within hospitals, systems, or payers — ideally in NYC or comparable markets.
  • Education: MBA, MHA, or equivalent advanced degree. Clinical background (RN, MD, etc.) a plus.
  • Skills:
  • Deep knowledge of healthcare operations (revenue cycle, supply chain, clinical workflows)
  • Strong financial acumen with full P&L ownership
  • Expertise in Lean/Six Sigma/Agile methodologies
  • Proficiency in healthcare IT (Epic, Cerner) and emerging tech (AI, telehealth)
  • Personal Traits: Strategic yet hands-on, resilient, collaborative, and committed to ethical, patient-centered leadership.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. (Up to 5% travel).

About the Role

This is a confidential executive search. All inquiries will be handled discreetly.

We are an equal opportunity employer, dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace reflective of New York City’s vibrant community.
