Back End Developer

About the Role

A rare opportunity is available for a Backend Developer to join a highly technical, research-driven team building an AI SaaS platform designed to make roads safer and smarter.

You’ll work closely with senior developers and architects to design, build, and maintain the backend of the application from the ground up. This is a hands-on, technically challenging position where the backend will underpin the entire platform. You’ll contribute to defining backend architecture, developing scalable APIs and data pipelines, and integrating advanced AI/ML services into production systems.

This is a two-year role (with strong certainty of duration) and offers the chance to work alongside a small, collaborative team of highly skilled engineers and PhDs who value technical excellence, curiosity, and shared problem-solving.

You Should Have

• 7+ years of experience in software development
• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js (3+ years preferred)
• Proven experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP (most likely AWS)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
• Proficiency in Docker and containerisation concepts
• Familiarity and willingness to use AI-assisted coding tools

Nice to Have

• GPU orchestration experience (highly desirable)
• Kubernetes experience
• Background in video processing or real-time analytics
• Exposure to infrastructure as code and DevOps practices

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend APIs using modern frameworks such as FastAPI or Express
• Develop scalable data and video processing pipelines for real-time analytics
• Implement authentication, authorisation, and multi-tenant functionality to ensure platform integrity
• Orchestrate cloud infrastructure, including containerised workloads, GPU jobs, and auto-scaling environments
• Integrate AI/ML inference services and manage outputs for downstream systems
• Collaborate with the Solution Architect to define, document, and evolve backend architecture patterns
• Maintain system artefacts, infrastructure definitions, and deployment scripts
• Contribute to DevOps practices, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code
