Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Purchaser to join our procurement team within the mining industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing the procurement of materials, equipment, and services essential for mining operations. This role requires a strong understanding of supply chain dynamics in heavy industry, supplier management, and cost optimization strategies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute procurement strategies for key categories (e.g., equipment, spare parts, consumables, and services).
  • Source and evaluate suppliers to ensure quality, reliability, and competitiveness.
  • Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing agreements with vendors.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including operations, maintenance, and engineering to forecast needs and ensure timely delivery.
  • Monitor supplier performance and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records of procurement activities and supplier communications.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate policies and industry regulations regarding procurement.
  • Manage critical supplier relationships and resolve any disputes or performance issues.
  • Stay updated on market trends, pricing, and new supply sources relevant to the mining sector.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., CPP, CPM, or SCMP).
  • Experience working in remote mining operations or with international suppliers.
  • Understanding of regulatory and safety standards in mining operations.
  • 5–10 years of purchasing experience, preferably in the mining, construction, or heavy industry sectors.
  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of procurement best practices and supply chain principles.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
