Role Overview
We're seeking an experienced System Engineer to join the IT Infrastructure team, based in Düsseldorf, Germany (Hybrid).
In this role, you'll design, implement, and maintain the company's hybrid IT environment—spanning on-premises servers, cloud services, and enterprise networks. You'll play a key part in ensuring system availability, performance, and security while supporting international users and driving infrastructure modernization across European sites.
This position offers a mix of technical hands-on work, leadership in incident resolution, and collaboration across global teams. You'll contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and automation projects that make a tangible impact on the organization's digital backbone.
Locations: Germany, preferably ; 3-days onsite / 2 days remote; Required to travel to all EU sites: 25-50%
Responsibilities
- Network Infrastructure Management
- Design, configure, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless networks.
- Monitor network performance, troubleshoot latency and connectivity issues.
- Manage VLANs, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), and QoS policies.
- Ensure network security through firewalls (Cisco ASA, Sophos, Fortinet), IDS/IPS, and NAC solutions.
- Conduct network capacity planning and scalability assessments.
- Server & Systems Administration
- Administer Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Azure AD.
- Manage virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, Nutanix).
- Oversee backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability configurations.
- Support hybrid environments integrating on-premises and Microsoft 365 ecosystems.
- Service Desk Leadership
- Resolve Tier 2/3 escalations for complex O365, network, or server issues.
- Mentor junior support staff and maintain technical documentation and knowledge bases.
- Security & Compliance
- Apply security patches and vulnerability remediations.
- Enforce Zero Trust principles, least-privilege access, and network segmentation.
- Automation & Optimization
- Automate administrative tasks using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or Ansible.
- Optimize infrastructure performance through load balancing, caching, and traffic shaping.
- Collaboration & Support
- Partner with IT and infrastructure teams across regions to implement system upgrades.
- Support data center migrations and cloud transitions across European sites.
The interview process includes 4 stages.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in system and network engineering roles within corporate environments.
- Proven expertise in Microsoft 365 administration, Windows Server, and enterprise networking.
- Strong troubleshooting skills (Wireshark, traceroute, PowerShell scripting).
- Solid understanding of hybrid cloud architectures, virtualization, and automation tools.
- Fluent in English (daily use); German proficiency preferred.
- Willingness to travel across Europe (up to 50%) for on-site support
- Hybrid model: 3 days on-site / 2 days remote.
