Freelance PHP/Laravel Developer (Project-Based)

Type of Employment: 3 months contract

We are looking for an experienced Freelance PHP/Laravel Developer to support us on a project basis. The project involves enhancing and extending an existing Laravel-based application consisting of a backend API and a web frontend.

Scope of Work

  • Authentication Modernization:

Migrate the current authentication mechanisms to a unified OpenID Connect-based authentication flow.

  • The web frontend currently uses session-based authentication.
  • The backend API currently uses Laravel Sanctum.

Both need to be aligned and integrated into a shared OpenID Connect approach.

  • Authorization Layer:

Implement fine-grained access control using Laravel Policies, ensuring that specific features and API endpoints are accessible only to authorized roles or users.

  • Containerization & Deployment:

Containerize the full application stack to enable seamless deployment in an AWS Fargate environment.

Requirements

  • Proven experience with Laravel (v9 or newer) and PHP 8+
  • Solid understanding of OpenID Connect, OAuth2, and authentication flows
  • Experience with Docker and AWS ECS/Fargate deployment setups
  • Familiarity with Laravel Policies, middleware, and API design best practices
  • Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs and modern frontend-backend integration patterns

Nice to Have

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or AWS CDK
  • Experience with frontend frameworks (Vue.js, React, or similar)

  • At the moment, we do not sponsor visas in the EU. For Hong Kong, we require at least two years of working experience and a university degree in a related field. For Singapore and the UK, we can only sponsor visas for mid-career or above.
