The Microsoft Azure Host Networking and Hardware Acceleration team is building a reliable and high-performance cloud network. We develop and maintain the infrastructure that connects physical hardware to virtual machines, with a focus on Linux platforms and hardware innovation.

We’re seeking a Data Scientist who enjoys solving technical challenges and using data to improve both our products and processes.

In this role, you’ll contribute to our detection systems, support investigations into key service issues, and deepen your understanding of kernel-level networking. You’ll work with novel networking data to generate insights and help improve engineering practices.

Curiosity about how systems work, clear communication, and familiarity with computing fundamentals will help you thrive.

Responsibilities

  • Develop solutions using Large Language Models (LLMs) to support recommendation systems
  • Analyze new types of network data to uncover patterns
  • Generate insights from operational data
  • Support resolution of high-priority customer issues
  • Demonstrate alignment with our team values and collaborative culture

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field
  • Experience debugging, supporting, or managing production servers.

Other Qualifications

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or govenment security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science,
    • OR related field
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science,
    • OR related field AND 1+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR equivalent experience.
Data Science IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
