The Role:


Our Client are a large Australian Financial services business based in the Sydney CBD. Through continued growth and a new project they are looking to hire a Data Analyst to join their IT team on a permanent capacity. The successful candidate will unlock data-driven insights across the full investment lifecycle—from origination, underwriting, and portfolio monitoring to risk analysis and investor reporting, Developing reports in Power BI.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate within your Data and Intelligence team to establish curated data sets of structured and unstructured data related to loan performance, collateral, covenants, borrower KPIs, macroeconomic indicators, and market pricing.
  • Build dynamic Power BI dashboards showing key metrics and analytics across origination, underwriting, risk, performance and reporting scenarios; enable drill-through and what-if analyses.
  • Act as an analytical insights “product owner” for Origination, Credit Risk, Portfolio Management, and Investor Relations teams, converting their questions into data solutions.
  • Facilitate workshops to define KPIs, analytics requirements and data definitions, ensuring alignment between business requirements and reporting outputs.
  • Present and validate deliverables to executive stakeholders in clear, non-technical language, articulating both quantitative insight and commercial implication.
  • Evaluate use cases for machine-learning models: early-warning systems, borrower risk clustering, covenant breach prediction, and GenAI-enabled analysis.
  • Work with the Data and Intelligence team to develop AI prototypes and validate; move successful pilots into production applying best practices.
  • Champion responsible-AI governance: bias detection, data protection, model explainability, and compliance with regulations and guidelines on AI in financial services.
  • Define and monitor data-quality rules and drive root-cause remediation.
  • Understand and apply data classification, access control and data lifecycle policies.
  • Contribute to the enterprise data catalogue and maintain metadata / lineage documentation in Microsoft Purview.


Key Skills:


  • 5 plus years experience analyzing company quantitative and qualitative measures, loans, leveraged finance, or private credit instruments (covenant analysis, cash-flow modelling, scenario analysis). Familiarity with credit ratings methodologies and regulations.
  • Proven stakeholder-facing experience translating technical output into investment-relevant insight. Familiarity interpreting company financial reports. Ability to articulate risk/return trade-offs and portfolio impact.
  • Experience with SQL across cloud data platforms (ideally experience with Microsoft Fabric or Synapse). Expert in Power BI for development of interactive dashboards. Strong DAX skills and performance tuning.
  • Practical exposure to supervised/unsupervised ML, feature engineering, and model evaluation. Awareness and practical experience of GenAI/LLM fundamentals and vector database concepts a plus.
  • Executive-level presentation skills; concise written communication for investment memos and reports.
