The Position

As a Back-End Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in the development of our Engine so that it scales for thousands of our Shopify merchant clients. You will build complex systems that drive sales to stores around the world. You will ensure that the servers and databases are efficient, and work on solving multiple challenges e.g. optimizing product targeting across thousands of products to align with the intent of tens of thousands of visitors

You will be tackling highly technical challenges and seeing your solutions drive tangible results in real-time. As a key member of a growing startup, you'll have the opportunity to shape the future of our product and truly own your impact, making every day rewarding and full of growth.

What You’ll Do

• Develop and maintain our server-side software.
• Design architecture and scalable solutions.
• Write thorough tests and apply systematic debugging.
• Ensure our databases handle fast international growth.
• Contribute to new products and features from concept to launch.
• Provide technical guidance and code reviews for the engineering team.
• Document integration solutions, APIs, and architecture.
• Collaborate with merchants to resolve challenges and drive improvements.

What We Expect

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of back-end development experience.
• Strong experience in Node/TypeScript.
• Experience in PostgreSQL databases.
• Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to resolve complex technical issues.
• Commitment to delivering high-quality, well-tested code.
• Passion for problem-solving beyond code: ownership, initiative, and collaboration.
• Fluent in spoken and written English.

Nice-to-Haves

• Familiarity with the Shopify eCommerce platform, or something similar.
• Understanding of security best practices, and architecture.
• Familiarity with AWS.
• Fluent in spoken and written Finnish.
