Head of Software | Cologne | Up to €150k

A mid-sized, innovation-driven engineering company in Cologne is looking for a Head of Software Development to lead its growing software division and shape the future of intelligent embedded and digital solutions across Europe.

Your Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of software engineers (C, C++, Python, embedded, and application-level developers)
• Define the software strategy and long-term technology roadmap in coordination with R&D leadership
• Oversee the development of embedded software, IoT connectivity, and GUI applications for industrial products
• Drive adoption of modern development practices (CI/CD, testing automation, agile processes)
• Ensure efficient collaboration between hardware, firmware, and software teams
• Manage resource planning, hiring, and performance development within the department
• Contribute to overall product strategy, working closely with management and key customers
• Represent the software division in cross-functional and external meetings

Your Profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
• Several years of experience in software development leadership (Head of Software, Team Lead, Engineering Manager, etc.)
• Proven track record in embedded software, C/C++, and system-level design
• Experience implementing modern development processes (Agile/Scrum, DevOps, CI/CD)
• Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to motivate and develop teams
• Fluent English; German skills are a strong advantage
• A strategic thinker with hands-on problem-solving ability and a drive for innovation
