Role: L3 Systems Engineer
Location: Milan, Italy (Onsite - Technical Operations Centre)
Employment Type: Contract
Schedule: 24x7 rotating shifts (Day: 06:00–15:00 | Evening: 14:00–23:00 | Night: 22:00–07:00)
One of our clients is seeking a highly skilled L3 Systems Engineer to join the onsite Technical Operations Centre (TOC) during a major international sporting event. This role provides advanced technical support, troubleshooting, and optimization of application infrastructure for the monitoring, management, and operations of Juniper network products. You will work closely with L2 engineers and operations teams to ensure 24x7 service availability and performance across event venues.
- Provide expert-level guidance and hands-on support to maintain infrastructure and service stability, performance, and security during event operations
- Operate, optimize, and troubleshoot servers, virtualization platforms (VMware), Linux OS, and open-source observability tools
- Lead diagnosis and resolution of complex system and network incidents, ensuring rapid recovery and minimal impact on critical services
- Work closely with L2 engineers, technical teams, and service providers to manage escalations and align operations with event timelines
- Maintain detailed system diagrams, operational runbooks, configuration guides, and handover documentation
- Identify opportunities to optimize monitoring, automation, and operational processes based on lessons learned and real-time operational insights
- 5+ years of experience in enterprise networking, systems, or professional services delivery
- Strong experience with VMware, Linux OS, and open-source network monitoring tools
- Solid understanding of network monitoring, incident management, and operational support processes
- Experience leading and coordinating multi-vendor, cross-functional teams in high-pressure environments
- Excellent communication skills in English; Italian preferred
- Familiarity with enterprise network services such as DNS, DHCP, NTP, and monitoring dashboards (e.g., Grafana)
- EU work authorization
- Prior experience supporting large-scale international events (sports, entertainment, or public venues)
- Relevant certifications: RedHat, VMware, Juniper, or equivalent
- Knowledge of automation, scripting, and APIs — Bash, Ansible, or similar
- Experience working in mission-critical 24x7 operational environments
- Deep understanding of enterprise networking, Wi-Fi networks, and application infrastructure
- Proficiency with network/system monitoring and management services
- Hands-on experience with virtualization platforms, Linux administration, and open-source observability tools
- Ability to create, maintain, and interpret system/network diagrams, operational runbooks, and documentation
- Skilled in troubleshooting complex infrastructure and service incidents in multi-vendor environments
