Tired of being tracked everywhere online? Frustrated by companies harvesting and selling your data? Join us and let’s bring back online privacy by giving advertisers an alternative!
Most of today’s digital advertising relies on collecting and sharing personal data. But things are changing fast: regulations like GDPR, the end of third-party cookies, and stricter tracking permissions are making it harder to follow people across the web — good news for consumers, but a real challenge for advertisers and publishers.
Here at Kobler, we are developing a unique product that enables advertisers to deliver relevant ads without relying on personal data. This emerging technology challenges us to create new and innovative solutions every day.
We are a small, close-knit, and flexible team from diverse backgrounds. Our culture is built on openness, autonomy, and collaboration. We emphasize employee satisfaction and continuously improve our way of working based on team feedback. We also dedicate time to keeping technical debt low, our tech stack modern, and our coding standards high. Code reviews, democratic processes, and knowledge sharing are core to how we work.
Our product is a self-service SaaS app through which advertisers can purchase contextual ads. It comprises multiple crucial backend services. Every day, these systems process more than 200 million events, generating almost 50 GB of analytical data that powers sophisticated algorithms designed to make the best decisions for our customers in the highly volatile world of real-time online advertising. It is also a distributed financial system that handles budget allocation, precise spend recording, and billing, with tens of millions of NOK flowing through it every day.
Your role will focus on improving and maintaining our backend services. You will have fun in this domain if you enjoy tough technical challenges with open-ended questions: How do we best identify the right campaigns for an article? How do we decide where and how much to bid, all in just milliseconds? If you enjoy solving complex problems at scale, you’ll thrive here.
- Kotlin on JVM
- AWS ECS
- Postgres
- Snowflake
- Redis
- Terraform
- 100% automated CI/CD (Docker, CircleCI)
- Datadog for monitoring and alerts
- Various managed and open-source data-management tools (Confluent, Airbyte, DBT, Metabase)
We would like you to have:
- experience with high-performance languages such as C++, Java, or Rust
- experience building distributed, highly concurrent systems
- strong knowledge of databases and how to make them fly (SQL)
It is a plus if you have experience with:
- event streaming platforms, such as Kafka or Pulsar
- high-performance distributed caches, such as Redis or Memcached
- CI/CD, DevOps, and cloud platforms, such as AWS
- agile development methodologies and working on a small and flexible team
While all of our backend systems are JVM-based, JVM platform knowledge is not a hard requirement. If you do not have JVM experience but you do not mind learning a new platform, do not hesitate to apply.
We’re looking for a motivated, solutions-oriented team player who enjoys tackling tough technical challenges and developing expertise in a complex, highly interactive system. Strong English communication skills are essential. Curiosity and an interest in exploring new technologies and standards are significant advantages.
Currently, we are looking for candidates who hold a permit to work in Norway (EEA/EU countries) and will do so most of the time. The role is based at our office in downtown Oslo, with the flexibility to work remotely regularly.
We develop novel ideas in programmatic advertising without the use of personal data. We love scale, text, algorithms, cloud, real time auctions and our employees.
We are located at Rebel.no, with probably the best lunch in the heart of Oslo.
