Backend Engineer - Search (All Genders)

THE ROLE & THE TEAM

We are looking for a Software Engineer to help enhance Zalando’s Search systems, making the shopping experience more relevant and personalised for millions of customers. You will work on scalable backend services that power search, collaborating with engineers, applied scientists and product teams to deliver high-impact solutions. If you enjoy building efficient, high-performance systems and solving real-world customer challenges, this role is for you

What You’ll Do

• Develop and optimise backend services for search, ensuring scalability and performance for millions of users.
• Build high-throughput search solutions using Scala, AWS, Kubernetes, and NoSQL databases.
• Collaborate with engineers, applied scientists and product managers to design and implement customer-centric solutions.
• Contribute to continuous improvements, helping modernise our systems and explore new recommendation use cases
  
  
  

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

• 3+ years of experience in backend development, with proficiency in JVM-based languages (preferably Scala), AWS, and Kubernetes Experience with Elasticsearch and NoSQL databases.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to write efficient, scalable, and maintainable code.
• Experience working on distributed systems and a passion for optimising performance.
• A collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
