Role: Senior Data Scientist - Databricks Migration & AI (Energy & Utilities)
Location: Remote (Germany only)
Rate / Salary: €80–€120/hr
Duration: 12 months (extension likely)
Language: German B2–C1
You’ll join a strategic programme to modernise the organisation’s data platform and AI capabilities on Databricks. The initiative combines platform migration, ML/GenAI enablement, and product ionisation of models supporting grid stability, demand forecasting, predictive maintenance, and renewable integration.
Role overview
We’re seeking a hands-on Senior Data Scientist to own technical delivery and partner with data engineers, platform teams, and business stakeholders through the Databricks migration. You’ll design, build and productionise ML solutions (time-series forecasting/anomaly detection) and help migrate/optimise existing PySpark pipelines onto Databricks.
Skills & Responsibilities
- Lead development and product ionisation of ML models for demand forecasting, predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, and asset optimisation.
- Migrate, refactor and optimise existing Spark/PySpark ETL and feature pipelines to Databricks (Delta Lake, Lakehouse patterns).
- Strong ML experience: time-series forecasting, anomaly detection, classification/regression and model deployment.
- Cloud experience: AWS, Azure, GCP
- Collaborate with platform and data engineering teams to implement best practices for CI/CD, MLflow model tracking, and Databricks job orchestration.
- Ensure data quality and build robust feature engineering for temporal and geospatial energy data (meter reads, SCADA, sensor streams).
- Experience in energy / utilities domain is desirable.
- Experience with geospatial analytics or GIS.
- Knowledge of LLMs/GenAI for document understanding, incident summarisation, or operator-assist tools.
