As a Mobile Engineer, you will play a key role in building a high-performance, privacy-focused VPN client that empowers users to browse securely and anonymously. You'll develop native mobile applications with a focus on iOS, integrating complex networking and security functionalities while ensuring seamless user experiences. Working within a collaborative and open-source environment, you'll contribute directly to a cutting-edge decentralized network protocol and help shape the next generation of internet privacy technology. As a Mobile Engineer, you will play a key role in building a high-performance, privacy-focused VPN client that empowers users to browse securely and anonymously. Working within a collaborative and open-source environment, you'll contribute directly to a cutting-edge decentralized network protocol and help shape the next generation of internet privacy technology. Accountabilities
- Develop and maintain a native iOS VPN client, ensuring top-tier performance, usability, and stability
- Write and maintain Swift code, integrating with the core Rust-based HOPR client library
- Collaborate closely with protocol engineers to identify and address performance or usability bottlenecks at the networking layer
- Continuously enhance the user experience (UX) across mobile and desktop platforms
- Build and document robust, maintainable code following best open-source practices
- Participate in regular code reviews, share insights, and contribute to team-wide technical discussions
- Debug complex networking issues and optimize mobile performance for reliability and scalability
- Solid experience in iOS native development, including integration into the VPN subsystem
- Strong understanding of Swift and experience interfacing with low-level networking code
- Previous exposure to long-running background applications or performance-critical mobile systems
- Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills, with the ability to identify root causes efficiently
- Passion for privacy, security, and open-source technologies
- Strong documentation habits and appreciation for collaborative, well-structured codebases
- Curiosity and initiative to explore, test, and contribute to open-source projects and tools
- Experience integrating Rust or similar lower-level libraries into mobile environments is a plus
- Fully remote role with team members distributed across Europe
