Junior Data Scientist - AI & Machine Learning

Among the European leaders in Enterprise Risk Management and Wealth & Asset Management solutions, Prometeia is looking for a motivated and curious part-time junior data scientist to join our AI & Machine Learning team in Istanbul. The ideal candidate is passionate about learning how to use data to solve real-world problems in the finance domain. This role is designed for someone at the beginning of their data science career who wants to gain hands-on experience, make tangible contributions, and continue to grow their technical and analytical skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support senior data scientists in the development of AI and machine learning models.
- Assist with data collection, cleaning, and exploration tasks.
- Contribute to feature engineering and model training using Python-based tools.
- Participate in testing and validating models under the guidance of senior team members.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, and selection to enhance model performance.
- Participation in the preparation/review of simple prototypes/analytic components within more complex pipelines.
- Contribute to data labeling and annotation tasks, especially for text and language-based (NLP) datasets.
- Take part in research and experimentation to explore new data science methods and tools.
- Preparing and delivering technical presentations to clients and stakeholders to explain machine learning models, project outcomes, and analytical insights.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Currently a junior or senior undergraduate student, or enrolled in a Master’s program in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- Knowledge of statistics, Machine Learning, and major clustering, classification, and regression algorithms.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL.
- Familiarity with Python libraries and tools for Machine Learning (numpy/pandas, scikit-learn) and scientific computing.
- Eagerness to learn and contribute in a team-oriented environment and attention to detail.
- Good communication and presentation skills in English.
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with code versioning systems (git).
- Experience in data wrangling, cleaning, exploration, and feature extraction.
- Experience in consulting or working with clients is a plus.
- Experience in financial institutions is a plus.
