 About this role 

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Web Developer to support the digital infrastructure of CHIMA and the College. This role is critical in maintaining and enhancing our WordPress-based websites, ensuring seamless user experiences for members, staff, and partners. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with WordPress, plugin customization, and integration, and a strong understanding of the unique needs of member-driven organizations.

This individual should be able to prioritize effectively and multi-task while working in a fast-paced environment with short- and long-term deadlines. The individual hired must be a team player who can work well independently, receive feedback, and collaborate with team members to understand how we can meet our business requirements by leveraging technology, including needs analysis, tool selection, and configuration to meet our requirements.

This role is for a person with a strong understanding and knowledge of web design patterns and theories, general web functions, and industry standards. This person must be well-versed in programming languages needed to create user-friendly websites and have the drive to understand how the system works and solve problems as they arise. This role is for someone eager to learn about new trends and technologies.

This is a full-time contract position, with a future option to convert to permanent full-time with pension and benefits.

 Requirements
  • University degree or college diploma in engineering, programming, software development, software design, or web design.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience building, designing, testing, and implementing WordPress themes/plug-ins and customized plug-ins, including Elementor, WooCommerce, Stripe, and intergrations with QuickBooks.
  • Advanced understanding of the WordPress core software and its functions at the code level
  • Strong knowledge of PHP, HTML, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, MySQL
  • Strong knowledge of e-commerce, UI, cross-browser compatibility, general web functionality and standards, and web security principles and how they apply to web-based applications and the protection of sensitive information
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of web design patterns and theories, general web functions, industry standards, and performance best-practices
  • Interested in working with a team to understand how we can meet our business requirements by leveraging technology, including needs analysis, tool selection, and configuration to meet our requirements
  • Able to multi-task and meet long and short-term deadlines and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to connect the dots to understand how the system works and solve problems as they arise
  • Effective project and time management skills

 Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain the organization’s websites, ensuring optimal performance, security, and accessibility.
  • Customize themes and plugins to meet organizational needs.
  • Implement new features and functionality based on member and staff feedback.
  • Ensure mobile responsiveness and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Evaluate, install, configure, and maintain WordPress plugins to support membership management, event registration, e-commerce, and content delivery.
  • Troubleshoot plugin conflicts and performance issues.
  • Develop or modify plugins when necessary to meet specific requirements
  • Collaborate with operations and marketing teams to publish and update content.
  • Optimize site structure and navigation for usability and SEO.
  • Ensure content is accessible and aligns with brand guidelines.
  • Provide technical support to staff and members regarding website use and access.
  • Create documentation and training materials for internal users.
  • Liaise with external vendors or developers when needed.
  • Monitor and implement website security best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with privacy regulations and best-practices (e.g., CASL, GDPR).
  • Perform regular backups and updates.
  • Provide regular reports on website traffic, user behavior, and engagement.
  • Recommend improvements based on data insights.
  • Attend meetings and collaborate with team members to determine the websites’ layout, discuss the design plan, and needs of the websites
  • Adhere to WCAG Guidelines when authoring and managing digital products
  • Conduct tests and assist in performing security and quality controls in collaboration with third-party partners
  • Monitor application performance related to usability and preparing for other relevant issues that may arise
  • Maximize the application pace by optimizing the scalability of applications
  • Integrate graphics, audio, and video into the websites
  • Other duties as assigned
 Location

This role requires applicants to reside in Canada, working from a home office.
