Purpose of role:
This role supports the timely development of innovative, clinically effective, and commercially successful products for the Blackmores range across Asia. It provides technical expertise in product formulation, evidence evaluation, and supplier engagement, ensuring alignment with market needs and company standards.
The role also involves monitoring industry trends, researching emerging ingredients, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify new product development opportunities and drive strategic innovation
Responsibilities include:
New product development - Technical Capability
- Good understanding of VDS industry including regulatory and quality requirements for producing bulk and finished goods
Formulation
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers to support product development aligned with market needs and internal standards.
- Formulate and review new products using scientific or traditional evidence, ensuring compliance with company policies and SOPs.
- Provide technical and strategic input to optimize formulation efficacy, cost-efficiency, and global market feasibility
Commercial Awareness, Industry Knowledge and Ingredient Specialty
- Track product, ingredient, and competitor trends to support market evaluations and identify new product development (NPD) opportunities.
- Research and assess ingredients through industry publications to ensure innovative, high-quality, and marketable formulations.
- Maintain industry networks and manufacturing knowledge to inform practical, scalable product formulation decisions
Sourcing Activities
- Share any new raw material/ unique manufacturers discovered through supplier networks.
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and contract manufacturers, selecting quality/ value actives and excipients in accordance to Blackmores Policy
Quality/ Regulatory knowledge
- Understand details, challenge advise, propose solutions stretch beyond complementary medicine listings to cosmetics, food, registrations in Asian Markets
Technical Project Management Activities
- Work with the Project Manager and stakeholders to ensure contributions occur within the necessary timeframes to deliver a product to market (maintaining timelines, issues, tracking, trouble shooting and recording as necessary)
- Track and update progress of team projects using agreed platform.
- Provide feedback on PLM improvements to mirror realistic timeline and process.
Who are you?
- Degree in pharmaceutical sciences (medical and industrial fields), Naturopathy, Nutrition and/or Science discipline
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of medical sciences/nutrition or pharmaceutical formulation or manufacturing or stability and analytical testing
- Knowledge of raw material suppliers, active and excipient ingredients and contract manufacturers
- Prior experience in regional role/cross functional team
- Good English verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work on various projects simultaneously, requiring strong organizational and time management skills
- Technical expertise; formulation knowledge, scientific and literature research
- Skills and critical appraisal of evidence.
- Knowledge of regulatory framework for supplements, functional food in APAC will be added advantage
